Old Rivalry: Bakery owner attacked at Lalghati snooker club

A VIOLENTconfrontation over an old rivalry has surfaced in the Lalghati area under the Kohefiza Police Station jurisdiction. A bakery owner, who was playing at a local snooker club, was subject ed to a life-threatening assault by a youth wielding a metal ‘punch’. Following the viral spread of the CCTV footage on social media, police have successfully apprehended the primary suspect. The incident occurred on Wednesday night. According to police sources, the victim, who operates a bakery in the Kotwali area, was playing at ‘David Snooker Club’ in Lalghati. During the game, the accused arrived at the spot and launched a sudden, pre-planned attack rooted in a past grudge.
  
Investigations revealed that approximately 10 days ago, a heated argument had broken out between the victim and the suspect’s elder brother over game play and expenses. At that time, the brother had allegedly threatened the victim with “dire con sequences.” Driven by that lingering dispute, the accused seized the opportunity on Wednesday to strike. The assailant used a heavy iron punch to deliver over seven rap id blows to the victim’s head and face. The severity of the impact was such that the bakery owner collapsed on the spot, losing consciousness.
 
After the assault, the suspect reportedly intimidated onlookers, shouting, “If you ever clash with my brother again, I will kill you,” before fleeing the scene.Taking immediate cognizance of the incident, Kohefiza Station House Officer K G Shukla stated that the accused was identified via CCTV footage and has been taken into custody. Preliminary investigation confirms that the attack was entirely motivated by revenge for a previous alter cation,” SHO Shukla said. The police are currently investi gating the roles of other potential suspects who may have assisted in planning the assault. The victim remains hospitalised and is undergoing treatment for injuries.
