CLASSIC aesthetics and the ability to comfortably fit a family of four are the major USPs of Deepak Lalwani’s 1972 Lambretta 150 Scooter that he is proud and happy to own. The Lambretta Company was founded in Italy just after World War II and was part of industrialist Ferdinando Innocenti’s manufacturing complex. The name of the company is derived from the suburb of Milan named Lambrate which got its name from a mythical water body that flows along the suburban area where it was first produced.

“The 150 CC scooter is a single cylinder, two-stroke engine which uses a kick start with a maximum power 8.30 BHP with front and rear brake drum,” explained Lalwani who owns Deepak Agencies in Sadar. Lalwani’s Lambretta was designed by the Automobile Products Of India (API) which started assembling the scooter in India. API had acquired the license for 150 Series 2 models which were sold in India under the name of Lambretta until 1976. “The USP of the scooter was it could accommodate four people easily — a family of four including two children. one would stand in the front portion ahead of the seat and face the wind.

The two elders would sit on the seat and the second child on the spare tyre at the rear of the Lambretta,” said Lalwani. The 53-year-old Italian beast will be a part of Rotary-The Hitavada Vintage Car Rally which will be held in association with Cent Ind Vintage Automotive Association Nagpur on December 28 at St Ursula Girls High School Ground in Civil Lines. Lalwani said, “My Lambretta is regularly displayed at my showroom located at Deepak Arcade on Residency Road in Sadar. I acquired this beauty a decade ago, and am maintaining it proudly and happily.”
