TEAM India’s arrival in Raipur on
Monday generated intense
excitement across the capital as
cricket enthusiasts gathered in
large numbers around Swami
Vivekananda Airport to welcome
the players ahead of the second
one day international against
South Africa.
The crowd swelled through the
afternoon and early evening with
fans seeking a brief sighting of
their favourite cricketers. Virat
Kohli’s exit from the airport terminal drew the maximum cheers
as security personnel escorted the
team towards the Mayfair Resort
at Nava Raipur.
The enthusiasm reflected rising interest surrounding the
ongoing series following India’s
commanding performance in the
first ODI at Ranchi. The top-order
partnership featuring Rohit
Sharma and Virat Kohli has driven expectations higher for the
Raipur fixture. Raipur city witnessed fan groups assembling at
prominent junctions along the
team route, many holding flags
and jerseys hoping to capture
images as the convoy passed.
Meanwhile, preparations at the
Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh
International Cricket Stadium
entered their final stage.
Officials at Chhattisgarh State
Cricket Sangh confirmed that
BCCI’s ground and pitch curators took operational charge earlier. According to technical staff,
the outfield in Raipur is significantly faster than what was
observed in Ranchi with consistent watering, sunlight exposure
and grass management ensuring
optimal playing conditions.
Match officials indicated that
dew will again be a factor for the
team bowling second, possibly
influencing captains’ decisions
at the toss. The practice schedule for December 2 has been
finalised.
South Africa will train
at 1.30 pm followed by India at
5.30 pm.
Both teams are expected to assess pitch behaviour closely before deciding their tactical combinations for the match.
Broadcast arrangements have also been upgraded with
BCCI’s technical team installing a spider camera system
and multiple 4K-capable cameras to enhance match coverage. The Raipur ODI marks second international and one
T20 match hosted by Chhattisgarh. The venue entered the
international circuit in January 2023 with India defeating
New Zealand in ODI by eight wickets. Later the same year
the stadium hosted India versus Australia T20 fixture.
The
upcoming contest against South Africa is expected to attract
a capacity crowd with ticket demand already reported to
be high across online channels. Raipur now shifts into full
match mode as both teams settle in for the second ODI on
December 3. The city’s preparations, crowd response and
stadium atmosphere indicate a high-intensity contest as
the series moves into its crucial middle stage.
