The Intelligence and Criminal Investigation Wing (ICIW) of the Income Tax (IT) Department, Nagpur Regional Office, conducted a survey at the Daryapur Sub-Registrar Office (SRO) on Thursday as part of its ongoing probe into lapses in filing Statements of Financial Transactions. The verification and investigation continued in Amravati.
A similar exercise was carried out at Bhandara Sub-Registrar Office on Friday as well. Officials examined both digital and manual records till late night to identify discrepancies and possible omissions in reporting.
The expanded action follows surveys conducted earlier this week at the Hinganghat Sub-Registrar Office and a bank in Chandrapur to verify whether reportable high-value transactions were correctly disclosed to the department.
The Income Tax Directorate is consolidating data from sub-registrar offices to assess what has been filed under the Statement of Financial Transactions (SFT) framework and what remains unreported.
The Inspector General of Registration (IGR) office in Pune is coordinating the collection of data to ensure that property registrations across Vidarbha are comprehensively captured and verified.
Based on preliminary findings, the Department has begun issuing notices to concerned entities and individuals, with the first notices sent in the first week of December and subsequent notices being issued on a daily basis.
Vidarbha has 119 Sub-Registrar Offices, and more than one-third have already faced surveys as part of the widened investigation. This has created unease across the registration network.
The probe, initiated in July, revealed that over 600 high-value property transactions worth nearly Rs 800 crore were not reported despite crossing the
Rs 30 lakh disclosure threshold at Hingna SRO. Post this, number of surveys at SROs, now
have been expanded to banks and hospitals.
