NAGPUR City emerged champions of the 25th Nashikrao Tirpude Memorial Maharashtra State Men’s Slum Soccer Championship.
The meet was held at the Slum Soccer Academy in Bokhara.
The State-level championship brought together 12 district teams from across Maharashtra — Nagpur City, Nagpur Gramin, Pune, Mumbai, Chandrapur, Bhandara, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Amravati, Yavatmal, Akola and Wardha.
In the final, Nagpur City dominated the game thrashing Nagpur Gramin 8-1 to secure the title. Shadab (4 goals), Umaid (2 goals) and Arshad (2 goals) were the scorers.
Earlier, Nagpur City, Nagpur Gramin, Pune and Mumbai advanced to the knock-out stage.
In the first semi-final, Nagpur Gramin defeated Pune in a closely fought penalty shoot-out (3-2).
The second semi-final saw Nagpur City deliver a commanding performance, defeating Mumbai 10-2.
In women’s section, Gondia emerged champions defeating Mumbai 6-0.
Achal led the charge with a brilliant hat-trick, scoring in 6th, 7th and 9th minute while Megha added another hat-trick with goals in 10th, 12th and 14th minute sealing a historic victory for the team.
Indrajeet Basu, Physical Education Professor, Porwal College, Kamptee; Dr Abhijeet Barse, CEO, Krida Vikas Sanstha (Slum Soccer) and Malika Nagpure, sports teacher, Porwal Junior College, Kamptee graced the prize distribution function.
