“The local body polls results have made it clear that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the largest party in Maharashtra, with people of the State putting complete trust in the development vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Monday. He declared that Saoner and some other councils in Nagpur District have now become Congress-free. He was speaking at a programme held to felicitate the winners of Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat Polls.

In results declared on Sunday, the Mahayuti alliance of the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP swept the elections to 288 municipal councils and Nagar Panchayats, winning 207 posts of presidents in the local bodies. In Nagpur district, of the 27 bodies, BJP won President posts at 22, its constituent Shiv Sena two and Congress could win only one seat. In Nagpur district, the BJP has made several councils Congress-free. The State Government will bring huge developmental changes in the district, he stated while urging party workers to not get arrogant due to the emphatic win. The huge mandate for the Mahayuti must motivate every functionary to work more for the people of Maharashtra, he emphasised. Fadnavis said that the Opposition levelled all kinds of allegations during the campaign, but people used their own perspective. “We did not target any person or organisation, we focussed on our goals of the development,” commented Fadnavis.

‘People will support us in mpl polls too’

“Considering grand victory in the Nagar Panchayat and Municipal Council polls, we are confident that BJP will win municipal corporation polls too. We have fought the polls with a proper planning. Preventing exodus is difficult but we fielded candidates as per the results of our surveys. Our strategy worked and we got the result. Same strategy will be applied for corporation polls too,” Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made it clear.

Bawankule assures a repeat in ZP polls

Thanking people of the State for giving a clear mandate to BJP and Mahayuti, State Revenue Minister and Nagpur’s Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule lauded them for their support and trust in the "double engine" government of PM Modi and CM Fadnavis. "CM Fadnavis gave Rs 6,500 crore for development projects in Nagpur district. A total of 317 councillors and 22 council presidents of the BJP got elected in Nagpur district. Party workers must prepare for upcoming NMC and ZP polls and ensure huge victory," Bawankule said.
