DHAR is set to become home to
India’s first medical college to be
developed under the Public
Private Partnership (PPP) model, marking a major milestone in
the country’s healthcare and
medical education landscape.
The foundation stone for the
medical college was laid on
Tuesday at the PG College ground
in Dhar by Chief Minister Dr
Mohan Yadav and Union
Minister for Health and Family
Welfare J P Nadda.
Addressing the gathering,
Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav
said Madhya Pradesh is witnessing unprecedented progress
in the healthcare sector.
He described the launch of the
PPP-model medical college in
the tribal-dominated district as
a historic step towards ensuring
affordable, accessible and quality healthcare for people at the
grassroots level. He credited
Prime Minister Narendra Modi
and Union Health Minister J P
Nadda for strengthening the
country’s health infrastructure
and bringing services closer to
the last mile.
Dr Yadav said that the PPP
model will bring together the
government and society to
improve healthcare delivery and
medical education.
"This initiative is beginning from Madhya
Pradesh and will set an example
for the entire country,” he said.
The Chief Minister added that
agreements were signed in
August for four medical colleges
under the PPP model in Dhar,
Betul, Katni and Panna.
Foundation stones for Dhar and
Betul have now been laid, while
Katni and Panna will follow soon.
The Dhar medical college will
be built on 25 acres of land at an
estimated cost of Rs 260 crore.
The State Government has leased
the land to the Swami
Vivekananda Shiksha Dham
Foundation for Re 1, paving the
way for private participation in
medical education.
Once operational, the institution will offer MBBS education
along with nursing and para
medical courses. It is expected
to reduce the need for patients
to travel to larger cities for treatment and create opportunities
for local tribal youth to pursue
careers in medicine.
Union Health Minister J P
Nadda termed the foundation
stone laying ceremony in Dhar
a historic moment for the nation.
He said that Madhya Pradesh
has taken the lead in healthcare
innovation by launching the
country’s first PPP-based medical college.
Highlighting the broader
transformation of the health
sector under Prime Minister
Modi, he said the focus has
shifted towards preventive
healthcare, supported by initiatives such as Ayushman
Arogya Mandirs across the
country.
The Chief Minister also high
lighted the rapid expansion of
medical education in the state.
He said that Madhya Pradesh
had just five medical colleges
in 2002-03, a number that has
now risen to 33. In the last two years alone, six new government medical colleges have
been started, including in tribal districts such as Singrauli and
Sheopur. During the event,
foundation stones and inaugurations were also carried out
for 93 development projects
worth Rs. 626 crore in Dhar district, covering education,
health, roads and other infrastructure. Senior leaders, ministers, public representatives
and a large number of local
residents
attended the
programme
