WHILE Ashish Jain justified his top billing in singles, the duo of Mahesh Sarangi and SS Ahmed emerged doubles champion in SJAN-Raisoni Media Badminton Tournament that concluded at Subhedar Badminton Hall, on Wednesday.
The three-day event was organised by Sports Journalists Association of Nagpur (SJAN) in a joint venture with GH Raisoni Sports & Cultural Foundation, Department of Sports and Physical Education Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University and Nagpur District Badminton Association.
In the men’s singles final, Lokmat’s Jain defeated office-mate Rajesh Sharma 21-18, 21-19. Sarangi and Ahmed were the losing semi-finalists.
In the men’s doubles summit clash, Navbhartat’s duo of Sarangi and Ahmed pipped Jain and Sarvesh Kalantri 21-19, 21-18.
Sharma-Raviraj Ambadwar and Kshitij Udar-Wasim Qureshi made it to the last-four stage.
In an all Lokmat women’s singles final, top seed Minal Jain beat Meha Sharma 21-11, 21-9. Navbharat’s Priya Jais and Apoorva Nayak made it to the semi-finals.
Prizes were distributed by Amit Gandhare (Public Relationship Manager, Raisoni Foundation) and Dr Ram Thakur (Senior Journalist). Dr Mrunalini Naik (Director, GH Raisoni Sports & Cultural Foundation) was prominently present.
SJAN President Naresh Shelke conducted the proceedings and proposed a vote of thanks.
