2 gritty women on car from Ramtek create history

 

 

  

Presenting a living example of courage, determination and women’s empowerment, Dr Anshuja Kimmatkar and Lakshmi Mathre from Ramtek have successfully completed a historic car expedition across India. Over a span of 84 days, the two women travelled through 27 States, covering a challenging distance of 22,530 kilometres. On completion of the journey, they were accorded a grand, warrior-style welcome by citizens in Ramtek on December 23. The two courageous women flagged off their expedition titled “Bharat Parikrama – Colours of India, with Women” from Ramtek on October 1. The campaign aimed to spread the message of women’s empowerment while experiencing and showcasing India’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.

 

During the journey, they crossed some of the world’s highest motorable roads, including the treacherous passes of Umling La (20,000 feet) and Khardung La (18,000 feet). They also faced extreme conditions such as scorching sands of Thar Desert, icy roads, sub-zero temperatures, sea routes and remote areas without network connectivity. As part of the expedition, they travelled through seven international border regions and three sea routes as well. Dr Anshuja Kimmatkar (doctor, author and Limca Book of Records holder) and Lakshmi Mathre (entrepreneur and social worker) said, there were moments when their lives were at risk, but their resolve never wavered.

 

They completed the entire journey by driving the car themselves, demonstrating complete self-reliance. After completing the expedition, they were given grand receptions and felicitated at Zero Mile in Nagpur and Gandhi Chowk in Ramtek. On the occasion, several organisations, including Srushti Saundarya Group, Matrika Foundation and the Journalists’ Association, honoured them. The expedition has emerged as an inspiring example of women’s courage, confidence and unwavering determination.
