As Prabhag No 11, situated in West Nagpur, prepares for the General Election in 2025, a significant administrative unit within the Nagpur Municipal Corporation has been demarcated to ensure balanced representation and efficient civic governance. Congress is ready to give tough battle this time to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), as BJP won all 4 seats in previous elections. The Prabhag consists of different communities and religion.

In the 2017 Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections, Prabhag No 11 (Mankapur-Zingabai Takli) emerged as a major battleground. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) achieved a clean sweep in this ward, securing all four seats. The contest was primarily a multi-cornered fight involving the Indian National Congress (INC), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and independent candidates.

Water contamination

As the draft ward formation for the 2025 General Elections highlights Prabhag 11 as a major administrative block. Despite encompassing critical infrastructure like the Gorewada Water Supply Pumping Station, residents are complaining of receiving contaminated water that is frequently discoloured and emits a foul odor. The monsoon season further exacerbates the mosaic of challenges’ faced by the locality. Major water-logging issues have been reported on roads near Hanuman Nagar, where poorly maintained drainage systems lead to excessive water storage in pits and underpass. Furthermore, the physical condition of the roads has reached a breaking point. Potholes and deep pits are a common sight, particularly near the Awasthi Nagar Chowk and Mankapur Square. These structural flaws, combined with high vehicle density, have led to chronic traffic congestion at these key junctions. With the ward slated to elect four corporators in the upcoming polls, residents are demanding immediate accountability. They insist that solving the ‘stinking’ water crisis and fixing the drainage-road nexus must be the top priority for the NMC to ensure a dignified life for the nearly 80,000 citizens in the area. Localities in Prabhag No 11 are Gorewada Water Pumping Station, Indrayani Nagar, Zingabai Takli, Baba Farid Nagar, Geeta Nagar, Bhupesh Nagar, Barde Nagar, Mankapur Faras Ghat, Indira Mata Nagar, Godhani Road, MHADA Colony, Ayyappa Nagar and Godavari Nagar.

Mixed social composition

The population density (71,151) is very high in the Prabhag, including 8,935 Schedule Caste and 3,231 Schedule Tribes. The ward has a large number of OBC population. Apart from this, the Prabhag is the home to Muslim communities. The social diversity is going to be a challenge for every party to attract votes on their side.
