A 42-year-old civil contractor lost his life in a horrific road accident in the Kolar area late Thursday night. The incident occurred on a narrow bridge on the Gehun Kheda-Neelbad road when two cars collided head-on, leaving two others critically injured. The police have impounded both vehicles and registered a case to determine the exact cause of the crash.
The deceased has been identified as Abdul Rashid Khan, a resident of Kanha Kunj, Kolar.
According to the police, Khan was returning home from a work site in his car. As he reached the small bridge near Amarnath Colony, a speeding car coming from the opposite direction rammed into his vehicle with immense force.
The impact was so severe that Khan was pinned between the dashboard and the driver’s seat. Passers-by alerted the police, who struggled for a significant amount of time to extricate him from the wreckage. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
The victim’s family, including his son Rehan, has levelled serious allegations against the occupants of the second car. They claimed that the car was carrying two men and three women who appeared to be in an inebriated state.
“Empty liquor bottles and disposable glasses were found inside their vehicle. They were driving so recklessly that even the airbags deployed upon impact,” the victim’s family alleged, demanding a high-level probe and strict action against the survivors. Kolar Station House Officer (SHO) Sanjay Singh Soni stated that two individuals from
the second car sustained serious injuries and are currently undergoing treatment.
Their statements are yet to be recorded due to their medical condition. “We have inspected the accident site and shifted both damaged vehicles to the police station. The allegations regarding alcohol consumption are being investigated. We are awaiting the medical reports of the injured to confirm if the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision,” the SHO added. The body of the deceased was handed over to the family following a post-mortem examination. Further legal proceedings are underway based on the forensic evidence gathered from the scene.
