A man was allegedly cheated on the false promise of securing a police job for his son in Bhilai.
Acting on the complaint, Bhilai Nagar Police have registered an offence and initiated further investigation. Police sources informed that in his complaint Kamal Singh Sahu of Utai, Durg stated that in 2012, during a police recruitment drive in Balodabazar district, one Shobharam Sahu of Morid village allegedly assured him of arranging a police job for his son Devendra Kumar Sahu in Kamal Singh Sahu and his family members reportedly handed over Rs 3.5 lakh to the accused on June 8, 2012.
The transaction was documented through a written agreement, and ATM transfer receipts are also available. However, even after two to three years, the promised job did not materialize. When the complainant demanded a refund, the accused allegedly kept delaying the repayment. Later, Shobharam Sahu reportedly executed a stamped undertaking, promising to return the amount in two installments, first by October 1, 2015, and the second by March 1, 2016. Despite this assurance, not a single rupee has been returned till date.
The complainant further alleged that whenever he approached Utai police station to report the matter, the accused would come to know about it immediately and allegedly threatened and intimidated him, asking him to remain patient with repeated promises of repayment. In his complaint the victim also stated that due to the non-return of the money, his family has been pushed into financial distress, and he is unable to arrange the marriage of his marriageable-age daughter. Based on the written complaint, Bhilai Nagar police have found prima-facie evidence of cheating, and an offence under section 420 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered. The case has been taken up for investigation.
