State Public Works Department Minister Rakesh Singh on Friday said that roads are not merely a means of transportation but gateways to progress, playing a vital role in education, employment generation and overall development of rural areas.
The PWD Minister was addressing public gatherings after performing bhoomipujan of development works worth about Rs 14.5 crore in various villages of Majhauli Janpad. The projects include construction of the 2.1 km Simariya to Bargawan road at a cost of
Rs 1.70 crore, nearly 5 km Ghanakala to Muraith road costs Rs 5.56 crore, Bheetakhurd to Lamkana road worth Rs 1 crore, Sarra to Suraiya road costs Rs 1.70 crore and the Lamkana to Patori via Sagoni road at a cost of Rs 4.54 crore. Addressing the public meetings held at Simariya, Lamkana and Patori, Singh said development works were progressing rapidly under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav. He said that due to the development oriented approach, works worth Rs 325 crore have been sanctioned in the Patan Assembly constituency in the last two years. Singh said he was grateful to the people for electing him as a Member of Parliament for 20 years and now entrusting him with the responsibility of PWD Minister.
He said he was committed to taking public works beyond construction to public welfare and assured that all infrastructure projects would be executed with strict quality standards.
Explaining innovations adopted by Public Works Department, the State Minister said that ponds would be developed at sites from where soil is extracted for road construction. Trees with a diameter of more than one metre would not be felled but relocated to safer locations and recharge bores would be constructed along roads to help maintain groundwater levels. Emphasising environmental conservation, he said it is now the responsibility of the present generation to preserve nature for future generations.
He informed that roads are being built using central refinery bitumen, ensuring durability and reducing maintenance needs for seven to eight years. In case of any damage, the responsibility of repairs would lie with the concerned contractor. MP Ashish Dubey and MLA Ajay Vishnoi also expressed their views on the occasion.
