Staff Reporter :
COLD conditions have intensified in Jabalpur and adjoining
areas towards end of the year,
with the city recorded lowest
temperature of the season on
Sunday. The minimum temperature in Jabalpur dropped to
7 degrees Celsius in the morning, while areas on the city’s outskirts reported temperatures
close to 6 degrees Celsius. The
official minimum temperature
in the city was recorded at 7.2
degrees Celsius.
The Weather Department has
issued a cold wave alert for
Jabalpur for the next two to three
days.
According to the forecast,
night and early morning temperatures are likely to fall further. Dense fog alerts have also
been issued for several districts
in the region.
The impact of severe cold is
being felt across Sanskardhani
and other parts of State. In most
cities, the minimum temperature remains below 9 degrees
Celsius. During the final week
of the year, cold conditions have
sharpened due to icy winds from
northern India and active
weather systems in the atmosphere. Cold wave-like conditions have developed in several areas.
Experts have credited the
sharp drop in temperatures to
the sub tropical jet stream
winds, active over north-eastern India, blowing at speeds of
around 232 kilometres per hour.
The freezing winds are significantly increasing cold conditions. In addition, a western disturbance is active in the form
of a trough, affecting the
Himalayan region.
The Weather Department has
indicated that another western
disturbance may become active
around December 30. This
could lead to a slight rise in minimum temperatures due to a
change in wind direction.
However, for now, the spell of
intense cold is expected to continue across the district.
