A stronghold of BJP

In the 2017 NMC polls, the BJP registered a thumping win in Prabhag No 19 as all four wards were captured by BJP corporators. Sarla Nayak of BJP bagged the highest percentage of vote in previous election as she bagged 16,302 total votes. Nayak defeated Rashmi Gazala Qazi of Congress who got 11,524 votes. BJP city chief and former city Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari also won the contest against Tayisif A Ahmed of Congress. Tiwari got 13,072 votes in the election for Ward No 19C. Similarly, Sanjaykumar Balpande and Vidhya R Kanhere also won the battle for BJP. MLA Datke and Tiwari have strong base in the constituency as Tiwari did lot of work there. Presence of both bigwigs may have alter the balance once again on BJP side but Congress is also ready to put a dent in this constituency.

Mixed social composition of voters

As Prabhag No 19 is situated in the heart of the city, the population density is also high. The total population of this Prabhag is 63,025. In this Prabhag, the Schedule Tribe population is higer than Schedule Cast population. Total 4,345 ST population is residing in this Prabhag whereas 3,347 population are SC. Along with this, the population of Brahmin, Muslim and North Indian population is also high. Therefore, all communities will play a decisive role in upcoming civic polls in this Prabhag. Keeping this in mind, all parties will try to attract SC voters with their manifesto.

Civic problems still not solved

Cement road construction work is underway every where in city and Prabhag No 19 is also a biggest victim of it. Traffic jams and parking issues in Gandhibagh area and Central Avenue are are very common. Despite repeated action against encroachment in Gandhibagh area the issue remain the same. Commuters and nearby residents are now fade-up of traffic jam and parking problem in Gandhibagh and Central Avenue areas. During festival season, the traffic and parking issue increases manifold as Chitaroli area where all idol of Lord Ganesh and Goddess Durga making takes place, cater the heavy traffic come from every corner of the city and the district.
