Staff Reporter:
STUDENTS of the Eklavya
Residential School and Hostel,
Rampur took to the streets
on Monday to protest alleged
systemic harassment and
misconduct by the institution’s
principal.
The demonstration, which
involved a significant number of
male and female students, began
as a foot march from the school
campus toward the District
Collectorate.
Protesters voiced
their dissatisfaction through slogans, citing a hostile environment characterised by verbal
abuse and poor administrative
management.
The students alleged that the
principal frequently engaged in
misconduct and mistreatment
and often used disciplinary protocols as a tool for intimidation.
They also highlighted the longstanding issues regarding the
quality of food and residential
accommodations.
The situation prompted an
immediate response from local
administration. SDM Anurag
Singh met with the students midmarch to communicate with
them. During the briefing, the
students expressed that their academic progress was being hindered by the current atmosphere
and noted that prior complaints
to school management had yielded no results.
SDM Singh successfully pacified the demonstrators by issuing a formal assurance that a
thorough investigation into the
principal’s conduct and the
school’s facilities would be conducted.
Following this intervention,
the students ended their protest
and returned to the hostel. Local
authorities have indicated that
corrective measures will be prioritised to ensure a conducive
learning environment.
