Habitual offender held for extortion, knife attack

TILAJAMALPURA Police have apprehended a notorious criminal, Noman Khan, alias ‘Noman Lala,’ following a violent extortion attempt and knife attack. The 24-year-old habitual offender was arrested after a strategic manhunt and the recovery of the weapon used in the crime. According to police reports, the incident occurred on the night of December 29 at Salim Chowk.
 
The accused intercepted the complainant, Mohammed Shariq, demanding Rs 500 for liquor. When Shariq refused, Noman Lala verbally abused him and stabbed him in the thigh with a knife. He also threatened to kill a witness who attempted to intervene. A case was registered under various sections of the BNS. Acting on a tip-off, a special police team conducted a raid at Qazi Camp.
 
Although the accused attempted to flee, police successfully cordoned off the area and took him into custody. During interrogation, Noman confessed to the crime and led police to the recovery of the knife hidden near the Railway Ground. Investigations revealed that Noman Lala is a repeat offender with a significant criminal history.
 
He faces 16 registered cases involving theft, robbery, assault, and violations of the Arms Act across several police stations, including Hanumanganj, Gautam Nagar, and Shahjahanabad. The accused has been produced in court for further legal proceedings.
