PANIC prevailed in Ghunaur
village of Vijayraghavgarh tehsil
in Katni district on Tuesday
when a leopard dragged a 10-
year-old boy from the village.
The boy was playing outside
his house when a leopard suddenly emerged from nearby
bushes, grabbed him, and ran
towards the forest.
The daylight attack by the
leopard caused widespread
panic and cries of alarm in the
village.
The Forest Department
team and the police were
immediately informed.
The Forest Department
team, upon reaching the spot,
launched a search operation in
the forest using the leopard’s
footprints, drones, and other
resources, but no trace of the
leopard has been found till this
report is being filed.
Body of Raj Kol, the boy who
was became victim of the leopard attack, has been recovered
from the bushes in the interior of the forest during a search
operation.
The Forest Department has
advised villagers to stay in
groups, not to leave their children alone, and to avoid going
out of their homes at night.
MP Vishnudutt Sharma and
MLA Sanjay Satyendra Pathak
have expressed their grief over
the incident. MP Vishnudutt
Sharma has announced a
compensation of Rs 8 lakh for
the victim’s family.
MLA Sanjay Satyendra
Pathak has urged the
Divisional Forest Officer
(DFO) to increase the number
of beat guards and patrols in
Vijayraghavgarh, which is
adjacent to the Bandhavgarh
area, to prevent a recurrence
of such incidents.
