Two teenage siblings were killed and a man was seriously injured when a speeding tanker hit their motorcycle at RBI Square under Sadar Police Station limits.
The deceased have been identified as Rudra Sunil Singaldhupe (11) and his sister Simran (12). The injured bike rider, Sheshnathsingh Jageshwarsingh (56), is a resident of Plot No 111, KGN Society, Katol Road, Gittikhadan.
According to police, Rudra and Simran were the children of a civil contractor who is currently working at Sheshnathsingh’s under-construction house. On Tuesday evening, Sheshnathsingh took the children out for a joy ride to Kamptee to attend a weding on his motorcycle.
The accident occurred around 10.35 pm near RBI Square. A tanker (NL-01/AG-0868) was reportedly being driven at a high speed and in a negligent manner when it hit their motorcycle (MH-31/FK-1811) from behind.
Following the impact, the trio fell on the road. In the incident, they suffered severe head injuries. Rudra died on the spot, while Simran and Sheshnathsingh were rushed to a hospital.
Later, Simran was declared dead during treatment.
Sheshnathsingh is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
The tanker driver fled after the incident but was later traced and arrested by Sitabuldi Police. He has been identified as Sahender Pancham Bin (37), a resident of Jangalmahal, Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh.
Police have registered a case under Sections 281, 125(a), 125(b), and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 134 and 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Further investigation is in progress.
