A shocking twist has emerged in the Nandanvan murder case. Police investigation has revealed that 25-year-old Rati Sahebrao Deshmukh killed her boyfriend, Balaji Vinayak Kalyane, because he was pressuring her to marry him. The police say she planned the murder, brought a knife with her and attacked him while he was asleep. Balaji (28), a resident of Mudkhed in Nanded, had come to Nagpur a year ago for police recruitment and competitive exam preparation. He lived as a tenant in Nandanvan Colony with his friend Pawan Kale. Rati, a native of Karanji village in Nanded, is a fourth-year BAMS student at Pandav College and lived in a rented house nearby. The two were in a relationship and met almost every day. Balaji had spoken to Rati’s father about marriage, but he had refused. This reportedly caused tension between the couple.

According to police, on Wednesday night, Rati came to Balaji’s room. Pawan slept in the kitchen, while the couple slept in the front room. Around 3.30 am, Rati suddenly started screaming for help. When Pawan reached the front door, Rati opened it after several minutes. Her hand was bleeding, but Balaji was lying unconscious in a pool of blood. Pawan rushed Balaji to a hospital, but doctors declared him dead. Rati was admitted with minor injuries. At first, Rati told police that Balaji attacked her with a knife and then stabbed himself. Later, she changed her statement and said she did not know what had happened. However, the post-mortem revealed five deep stab wounds on Balaji’s chest. Doctors told police that it was impossible for someone to stab themselves five times with such force. Police said that Rati stabbed Balaji while he was sleeping and injured herself afterwards to mislead investigators. She had reportedly brought the knife with her which showed that the attack was planned. A murder case has been registered against Rati Deshmukh and she will be arrested by the police after her medical treatement is over.
