- Over 5 lakh devotees expected to arrive for the mega religious convention
Nagpur is set to welcome around 5 lakh devotees on Sunday for the 350th martyrdom anniversary of ‘Hind Ki Chadar’ Guru Tegh Bahadur to be commemorated by Government of Maharashtra at Suresh Chandra Suri ground, Nara from 9 am till 10 pm. The event, marked with a massive satsang, has attracted participation from across Maharashtra and beyond, reflecting the widespread reverence for the Sikh Guru’s sacrifice and his defense of religious freedom.
Though the religious programmes will start from 9 am, the main programme will be held at 3 pm. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Minority Affairs Minister Manikrao Kokate, Ministers of State Madhuri Misal and Adv Ashish Jaiswal, and senior religious leaders will be prominently present for the programme.
The event is being positioned as one of the most extensive public observances dedicated to the ninth Sikh Guru, whose resistance to forced conversions and defense of religious freedom remain central to Indian historical memory.
A large covered pandal housing a stage and around 40,000 seats has been constructed at the venue as part of the massive preparation for the event. Multiple adjoining pandals will host the langar, where all attendees will be served meals throughout the programme.
Another major attraction is the exhibition set up illustrating the life, principles and teachings of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib and other Gurus that will provide visitors with structured historical interpretation. ‘Jootaghars’ have been set up near entry points for devotees to deposit footwear, and the organisers have committed to adequate drinking-water points, sanitation facilities and parking arrangements.
Given the anticipated footfall, the committee plans to implement traffic restrictions by halting vehicles roughly 500 metres from the ground. E-rickshaws will be deployed to transport elderly attendees and others requiring assistance. Parking, transport arrangements
The authorities have made dedicated parking and transport arrangement for the grand event to be held at Suresh Chandra Suri ground in Nara to accomodate the large influx of attendees on Sunday.
The parking arrangement for the two-wheelers and four wheelers of the devotees has been arranged at Jhulelal Sports ground in Jaripatka.
The buses ferrying the devotees from various parts of the region will have to be parked in premises of Koradi bus depot, Koradi temple, Indora ground, Mankapur stadium, and near Lamba celebration on Kamptee road. Shuttle bus service will be made available from all dedicated bus parking spots till Jhulelal Sports ground, Jaripatka, which is approximately 500 meters from the venue.
The e-shuttle will be operated from various parts of the city till dedicated drop points near the venue.
Parking spaces are dedicated for parking of buses from various districts as follows.
Koradi side parking: Tumsar, Sakoli, Chhindwara, Kamptee, Khaparkheda, other parts of Nagpur district, buses coming from Madhya Pradesh, Wardha, and Chandrapur.
Mankapur stadium: Yavatmal, Amravati, Akola, Washim, and Buldhana.
Indora ground: Mouda, Bhandara, Gondia, Gadchiroli
Near Lamba Celebration, Kamptee Road: For mini buses
Jaripatka: Jhulelal Sports ground for two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
