Natural Resources The new money

There is going back now as far as the technological and digital advancements are concerned. The internet, AI, blockchain, crypto currency, augmented and virtual reality... they are here to stay. And it is only wise to adapt to the evolution, afterall, they do make the human life better, easier in this modern, rapidly evolving and dynamic world which is unpredictable. But, is this really the right way forward? Is technology bringing too many problems in its wake? In this context, some people are hailing Anant Ambani’s Vantara project, an initiative projected to protect natural resources and animals.

This seems a charitable initiative. But then came the reports that Vantara was actually a very strategic move by Ambani Junior, as, along with helping the animals get a better life and conservation of biodiversity and natural species of both plants and animals, it would also help the Ambani to build reserves for natural resources like genetic data from both plants and animals. He can get advantage carbon credits as well, which can be sold in future for whopping amount of money. Carbon credits are basically a tradeable permit that gives the right to emit 1 metric tonnes of CO2 (carbon dioxide) or an equivalent amount of another gas. In simple and layman language, it is like Earth rewarding you for releasing less amount of CO2 and doing good to Nature by activities like planting more trees, cleaning the air and making clean energy technologies like wind or solar. It is also used for penalising the companies who emit more CO2 through different industrial activities and not participating in nature friendly activities so that the carbon emission can be reduced and controlled to protect nature. To explain this with a simple example, say one Riya gets 10 tickets for planting 10 trees while a factory that is releasing too much smoke needs those 10 tickets.

Factory buys Riya’s tickets. Riya gets money and the planet gets more trees. So, this creates an incentive for planting more trees and releasing less carbon- basically nature and environment friendly activities are being rewarded. Some might argue that natural resources are reducing and depleting day by day due to many reasons like rising population, climate change, and rapid increase in pollution- but these are things which we can be managed and controlled. If we obey Nature, Nature will also reward us. The only efforts we are required to take are not to cause any pollution, plant more trees and adopt sustainable practices like using eco-friendly goods which can be easily decomposed as a waste. Waste management is easy only if we want to genuinely take efforts to protect and save nature by decomposing the right type of waste in the right manner rather than throwing it away randomly. We can still protect and preserve natural resources and keep their lifeline for long only if we take efforts to protect and keep Nature safe with our simple and sustainable activities. We need our natural resources something we cannot live without. No wonder the wealthy have started looking for lucrative and interesting business opportunities in it. We can preserve, conserve and save natural resources only if we follow and sustainable practices to protect Nature and follow simple habits that make resources sustainable. Natural resources may be the new money for the rich, but for the common man, it is simply better living.
