Hundreds of senior office-bearers and members of Madhya Pradesh Sarv Brahmin Sabha staged a massive protest outside Police Control Room and Malviya Chowk after attending the terahvi (13th-day ritual) of the victims in the Timri mass murder case, on Sunday. The agitated Brahmin Sabha members submitted a memorandum, demanding capital punishment for the accused and immediate compensation for the victims’ families. The wives of the deceased, Gunjan Pathak and Chandan Pathak also participated in the protest along with their young children. They urged senior authorities to ensure that the case is heard in a fast-track court to deliver swift justice.

A large number of Brahmin community members also submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister. They urged the district administration to take strict action in the matter. During the protest the Brahmin community people demanded death penalty for the accused, demolition of the accused’s houses using bulldozers and due financial compensation and security for the victims’ families.

They also demanded strict action against any political figures who supported the accused. Representatives of the Brahmin community from across the State issued a strong warning, stating that if prompt action is not taken in a fast-track court, they would launch a nationwide protest. They held the administration responsible for any further delays in justice. Senior office-bearers of the Brahmin Sabha said the protest highlighted growing unrest and the community’s demand for strict legal action and immediate relief for the affected families. It may be noted that on January 27, a heinous mass murder took place in Timri Nunser village in Patan area of Jabalpur, where four people from two families were brutally killed in broad daylight by a group of ten accused. Following the incident, the police acted swiftly and arrested two accused in Jabalpur and seven others in Pachmarhi within 24 hours. The police then produced the accused in the court, where the police secured their custody till February 3 for interrogation. After the completion of their remand period, all the accused were sent to jail. The case continues to be under investigation.
