A cursory look would reveal that traffic police have taken into consideration improved road connectivity and safety to gear-up speed limits on slightly upper side. For motorcycle riding on plain roads, doubled laned with divider in between the speed limit would be 60 km/hr and on ghat roads it would be 40 km/hr. In Nagar Palika and other roads the speed limit would be 60 and 40 km/hr for 8 and 9 sealers on plain road and hilly terrain.

The same speed in Nagar Palika and other roads for commercial vehicles would reduce to 50/30 km/hr for 8+seater and 40/30 km/hr for 9+seater. and on two laned access controlled roads they would be 80 km/hr on plain surface and 40/hr on ghat section for M/2 and M3 category of vehicles and one that are used for transport of material (all N category vehicles) and also on highways. But commercial vehicles with passengers can run at speed of 100 km/hr on plain roads and 60 km/hr on hilly terrain. As to four wheelers used for transport of passengers, nine or more, the new limit would be 60 and 40 respectively within city limits. Vehicles plying with 8 or more passengers the new speed would be 70 and 40 respectively. However four wheeler rickshaw, three-wheeler vehicles/rickshaw and two wheelers would remain off roads where vehicle entry is banned.

The focal point of the new directives that will remain in force for a period of one month March 10, 2025, and traffic police said citizen can submit their suggestion or objections. Post studying the same in case needed, new speed limits would be notified, said the release issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Archit Chandak. The release mentioned that speeding is identified as prime cause of mishaps in city limits that leads to death of laymen who are not at fault. Some people suffer critical injuries requiring hospitalisation and some even carry it life long. To curb rash driving, the new speed limits are going to be enforced. A salient point of the new speed limits seems to curbing the speed of transport vehicles and in maximum number of cases the drivers in them were found to be over speeding. The maximum speed on highway, four laned or more, is now capped at 90 for commercial passenger vehicles and 60 for transport vehicles.
