The area from the gate near Sahakar Nagar crematorium to the airport has now turned into Nagpur’s new dumping yard. On both sides of this once-scenic road, sacks full of household waste, empty liquor and beer bottles, and even used condoms can be found dumped in certain spots.
This raises concerns about the kind of illegal and immoral activities happening in this area, which was once a pride of the city and has been named ‘Natural Oxygen Park’ by morning walkers. ‘The Hitavada’ visited the spot and found that the space behind the shops is being used by the visitors as a spot for hangouts who usually litter liquor bottles and other waste. The roads used by the morning walkers usually is a deserted place, but by evening, the road is used for unknown/ immoral activities that leaves behind a heap of garbage, including bottles and other waste.
The residents living around that area also contribute by throwing sack full of garbage and other household thrash along the road.
This area, usually deserted, sees cars and two-wheelers parked along the roadside at night, indicating suspicious activities. It is understood after speaking to some citizens that the security and maintenance of this road falls under MIHAN India, but when contacted by ‘The Hitavada’, the MIHAN India officials informed that the road falls under the Maharashtra Airport Development Company’s (MADC) jurisdiction. The MADC officials could not be contacted. Currently, the road remains closed for four-wheelers between 5 am and 8 am for the convenience of morning walkers.
Considering the situation, local residents demand that the concerned authorities take appropriate action to address the issue.
