BMC organises awareness rally to warn people about plastic harmfulness

Despite the ban, the majority of the shopkeepers and traders are selling products in single-sheet plastic bags and baskets causing dirtiness as well as harm to the environment. The staff of Bhilai Municipal Corporation (BMC) are imposing fines on the shopkeepers for selling products into polythene bags. To bring awareness about the harmfulness of plastic/polythene bags, the staff and volunteers of BMC carried out an awareness rally in different market areas of the civic body. As per instructions of BMC Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar Pandey, officers and employees of the health department carried out an awareness rally in Circular Market, Jawahar Market, Sabzi Mandi, Mutton, Fish and Fruits Markets.
 
Under the guidance of Zone Commissioner, Satish Yadav and Health Officer, Javed Ali, the civic body organised an awareness rally. In the rally, they informed traders, the majority of the people throw these polythene bags on drains and open areas and as a result, dirtiness occurs in these areas and all living beings suffer a lot. They have also stopped shopkeepers from using polythene bags for carrying fruits, fish, and other food products. The officials of the civic body imposed a fine of 2600 rupees against these traders.
 
Even these officers have also stopped some of the customers from purchasing products in polythene bags and encouraged them to purchase products in cloth or paper bags. In this awareness rally, Senior Health Inspector K K Singh, Public Relations Officer Ajay Shukla, Zone Health Officer Birendra Banjare, Hemant Manzi, Mission Manager Aman Patle, Ekta Sharma, Abhinav Thokane, and others were present.
