“The purpose and vision of Khasdar Jyeshtha Nagarik Sanskrutik Mahotsav are truly commendable. I wish its essence remains unchanged, allowing it to thrive and achieve great success,” said Padma Bhushan Mithun Chakraborty, renowned actor and former Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha). He was present as the chief guest at the concluding event of the Khasdar Jyeshtha Nagarik Sanskrutik Mahotsav 2025 at Kavivarya Suresh Bhat Auditorium, Reshimbagh on Sunday.
The two-day festival for senior citizen aimed to encourage participation of senior citizens and bring happiness to their lives.
Datta Meghe, former Member of Parliament and Working President of the festival, along with Nilesh Sathe, former Head at LIC, Dr Sanjay Ugemuge, and Sudhir Pathak, former Editor of Tarun Bharat, were prominently present.
Pathak was felicitated by Chakraborty for his work in journalism field.
Chakraborty, in his speech, shared a piece of advice, “My mother always told me that people will advise to walk with head held high, but do not let pride accompany it. Instead, keep head slightly bowed so you can see obstacles and avoid stumbling.” He continued, “Nitin Gadkari is one of the finest ministers in our country. Even being in his presence is an honour.”
Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, addressed the gathering over a phone call, and mentioned that he was in Prayagraj and unable to attend the closing ceremony.
He expressed his gratitude to Mithun Chakraborty for his presence and appreciated the efforts of organising committee and backstage supporters.
Pathak expressed gratitude for the recognition and Datta Meghe also briefly addressed the gathering. The day witnessed an electrifying performance by a Mumbai-based musical band ‘Abhanga Repost’. The band aims to connect with both younger and older generations by blending traditional ‘abhangs’ with a modern, westernised fusion. They began their performance with ‘Vitthal Vitthal Jai Hari Vitthal’ which had the audience chanting along. This was followed by ‘Pundalik Varde’, ‘Mani Nahi Bhaav’, ‘Amhi Bi Ghadalo’, ‘Kashala Kashi’, and ‘Chal Ga Sakhe’. They concluded with a musical rendition of ‘Pasaydaan’.
Alongside guitars and drums, the band integrated traditional instruments like harmonium, tabla, kartal, and manjira, adding a classical touch. Bal Kulkarni conducted programme’s proceedings and Ashok Mankar proposed a vote of thanks.
