On Monday, Enforcement Directorate (ED) presented Saurabh Sharma, along with his close associates, Sharad and Chetan, in Bhopal District Court after their 7-day remand concluded. The trio was brought to the court under tight security, with CRPF personnel stationed at the courthouse.

The three were previously arrested by Lokayukta police and were questioned regarding the massive sums of cash and gold recovered from Sharma’s residence. During the hearing, the court sent them to jail for 14 days, but neither the ED nor the Income Tax (IT) Department requested an extension of the remand or further questioning. It was anticipated that the agencies might seek to extend the remand for further investigation, especially since several major revelations were expected from Sharma and his associates. However, the ED and IT teams chose not to pursue this request. The accused will remain in jail until March 2, in connection with the case involving 52 kg of gold and Rs 11 crore in cash. The case began gaining attention after a raid on December 27, when investigating agencies carried out searches at the homes of Saurabh Sharma’s relatives and associates in Bhopal, Gwalior, and Jabalpur.

Significant amounts of gold biscuits and cash were found at his residence, raising suspicions about his connections to large-scale corruption. There have also been speculations about Saurabh Sharma's possible links to several prominent political figures. Leader of Opposition, Umang Singhar, recently accused that Rs 2 crore per day is being routed from the Transport Department to a senior central minister. Saurabh Sharma, a former RTO constable, became a millionaire in a remarkably short time, allegedly through corrupt practices. Sharma, along with his associates, has already made several significant confessions during his interrogation by Lokayukta. After being handed over to the ED for further investigation, they were questioned about the origin of the money and gold found at Sharma's residence. Now, with their remand period ended and no further investigation requests, the trio faces trial and potential future developments.
