The ongoing rivalry between gangs has led to yet another brutal murder in the city. Kartik Umesh Choubey (28), a notorious criminal who was released from jail, recently, was brutally murdered by three criminals near Shahu Garden under the jurisdiction of Sakkardara Police Station, on Sunday midnight. The police have arrested three, including Roshan Gaikwad (27), who also has multiple criminal cases registered against him. According to the police, Kartik Choubey had been out on bail for a murder case three months ago but was later jailed again for vandalising vehicles. After serving a short sentence, he was released 28 days ago.

On Sunday night, he was consuming alcohol with friends near Shahu Garden when an argument broke out. Kartik hit Roshan on the head with a beer bottle, which resulted into escalation of the fight. In retaliation, Roshan and his accomplices stabbed Kartik multiple times in the neck and stomach. They fled the scene leaving injured Kartik in a pool of blood. Staff of Sakkardara police reached the scene and sent the body for post-mortem, after spot panchanama.

Rivalry over dominance

Kartik was a history-sheeter goon with a case of murder registered against him. He used to project himself as a gang leader and often displayed aggressive behaviour under the influence of alcohol. His arrogance and violent tendencies had created resentment among his own friends. On Sunday night, he reportedly challenged them asking, “Who is the biggest gangster of all?” This led to an argument that ended in his murder.
