In a major step towards strengthening security and safety at Dumna Airport, two modern fire-fighting vehicles have been inducted in the existing fleet. Manufactured in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), these vehicles cost Rs 14.88 crore. Capable of extinguishing fires from a distance of up to 85 meters, these advanced fire fighting units will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of lives and property at the airport during emergencies.
The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has provided these vehicles to Dumna Airport after a long gap. They will be utilised following the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). Each vehicle is equipped with a storage capacity of 10,000 liters of water, 1,300 liters of foam and 250 kg
of dry chemical powder, enabling a swift response in critical situations.
These high-tech fire-fighting vehicles can discharge 5,000 liters of water per minute. They are designed to combat fires effectively using foam and chemical sprays. With a weight capacity of 39 tons, they can accelerate from 0 to 80 km/h in just 35 seconds and achieve a maximum speed of 110 km/h. Their 6x6 wheel-drive automatic transmission allows them to reach emergency sites quickly and efficiently.
Previously, Dumna Airport relied on older fire-fighting vehicles with limited capabilities. The induction of these modern vehicles brings the airport's safety infrastructure in line with international standards. The upgradation is a vital step towards preparing the airport for future international flights. Airport officials said these vehicles are vital for ensuring the security of passengers and aircraft. Their rapid response mechanism will significantly enhance airport safety during emergencies. These vehicles have been procured through a global tender by the National Fire Fighting Manufacturing Company (NAFFCO) of the UAE. All fire fighters at Dumna Airport have given specialised training to operate these vehicles efficiently.
