City lawyers stage protest against Centre’s proposed amendments in Advocates Act
Jabalpur
lawyers on Friday staged a one-day symbolic protest against the
amendments proposed by the Central Government in the Advocates Act.
The courts looked deserted due to the absence of lawyers. However, despite the absence of lawyers, the courts heard those cases in which the parties were present. In most of the cases, the hearing was extended by the courts. In protest against the proposed amendments, the lawyers took out a rally from Gate No. 3 of the District Court Jabalpur, which reached Tehsil Chowk via the Collectorate Square.
The lawyers united and raised slogans in front of the statue of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar located there. After this, the rally concluded at the Collectorate Square via the SP Office, Malgodown Chowk.
High Court Bar President Dhanya Kumar Jain, Secretary Paritosh Trivedi, District Bar President Manish Mishra and Secretary Gyanprakash Tripathi have said that the Central Government is trying to suppress the lawyers through this black law. This attempt will not be allowed to succeed under any circumstances. Advocate Tarun Rohitas said that for the last 15 years, there was a demand for Advocate Protection Act for the safety of advocates, instead of
fulfilling it, the government is bringing a bill against the safety of advocates which will not be accepted.
MP State Bar Council Vice Chairman and former District Advocates Association President RK Singh Saini said that the said amended bill is against the lawyers. He is ready to
fight for the rights of lawyers. No harm will be allowed to the freedom of lawyers. For this,
the fight will be fought at every level.
Decision taken in joint meeting: Earlier, a joint meeting of District Bar, High Court Bar and High Court Advocates Bar was held against the proposed amendments of the Central Government.
In the meeting, the executive of all three bar associations
took the decision last Wednesday not to appear in the courts for a day as a symbolic protest.
