In a landmark political shift, Chhattisgarh has elected its first transgender sarpanch, marking a momentous step towards inclusivity in grassroots governance. Sonu Oraon, a third-gender candidate, emerged victorious in the sarpanch elections of Chanwaridand village under Manendragarh Janpad Panchayat, defeating former sarpanch Gauri Singh in a closely contested electoral battle. Elated by the win, Sonu Oraon dedicated the triumph not merely to personal achievement, but to the collective aspirations of the villagers. “This is not just my victory; it belongs to every resident of Chanwaridand who dreams of progress and inclusivity,” said Sonu. With a bold vision for development, Sonu has outlined a progressive roadmap aimed at revitalising the village infrastructure and ensuring social upliftment.

The top priorities include beautifying and modernising Chanwaridand, creating employment opportunities for youth, and expanding access to welfare schemes. “Every government initiative will be implemented with precision, ensuring that benefits reach those who need them the most. Our development agenda will be aligned with the real needs of the people,” Sonu affirmed. The newly elected leader has pledged to transform Chanwaridand into an exemplary panchayat. Sonu vowed to work relentlessly towards fostering a more inclusive and prosperous future.
