The Jabalpur Municipal Corporation along with the police carried out an anti-encroachment drive at Tripuri Chowk and nearby areas, on Sunday. During the drive the squad removed a number of encroachments, including makeshift shops and sheds, set up in front of the bus stop. The unauthorised temporary structures were creating obstructions for commuters. Senior officials informed that a number of shopkeepers had occupied the bus stop area. The placed paan kisosks, temporary shops and other unauthorised stalls. Since these stalls were located near a liquor shop, they often turned into illegal gathering spots in the evenings.
 
Intoxicated people frequently harassed passersby, especially women. Following the same, locals had lodged numerous complaints with the police and the Municipal Corporation. Acting on the complaints, the anti-encroachment squad took action and removed all unauthorised structures. Senior Officials also informed that several unregistered drinking spots had emerged around the liquor store. Hence, the drive was conducted to curb public drinking and ensure a safer environment for the community. Officials informed that the anti-encroachment squad will continue similar drive in other areas of the city. They said several other illegal structures along the same route have already been identified and will be cleared soon. They said the civic body is toiling hard to make the city encroachment-free.
