With the India-England One Day International match scheduled for Thursday at the Vidarbha Cricket Association’s Jamtha Stadium, Nagpur Police are implementing extensive measures to ensure smooth traffic flow and security.
Four drones will be deployed to monitor traffic, particularly on Wardha Road, and a police presence of 2,000 personnel, including 300 cops from the traffic branch, will be on duty.
Commissioner of Police Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal chaired a review meeting on Monday at the Police Bhavan and finalised the arrangements. CP Dr Singal informed that on Sunday, the police drones have surveyed the stadium, surrounding areas,
and access roads, including Wardha road, to assess traffic flow and parking options.
The police are considering allowing student entry via Hingna for safe passage.
A whopping 11 Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS) will be stationed in and around the stadium. A special team of Quick Response Team (QRT) and Riot Control Police (RCP) would remain on toes for quick response to untoward situations. A “green corridor” for spectator vehicles is planned from Jamtha to Rahate Colony square to mitigate post-match congestion, informed CP Dr Singal.
The Indian and England teams will be accommodated at Radisson Blu and Le Meridien hotels, respectively, under tight security. Special teams of City Police led by a Deputy Commissioner of Police rank officials will escort the players between the hotels and the Jamtha Stadium. Enhanced surveillance measures include 254 CCTV cameras, four mobile surveillance vans, and strategically placed watch towers throughout the Jamtha area.
With all match tickets sold, police are also addressing concerns about black market ticket sales on social media. The Cyber Police have been tasked with monitoring online platforms.
