RAIPUR,

IN a groundbreaking moment for Chhattisgarh sports history, 2008-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Shailendra Kumar Deshmukh is set to carve a new legacy as he represents the state in the prestigious Khelo India Winter Games 2025, scheduled to be held at the snow-capped slopes of Gulmarg, Jammu & Kashmir from March 9 onwards.

This marks the first-ever representation from Chhattisgarh in the Khelo India Winter Games, now in its fifth edition, making Deshmukh’s participation a moment of immense pride for the state. Currently serving as Director of the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN) in Raipur, Deshmukh will compete in the Alpine Skiing category, showcasing his unflinching passion for adventure sports. A certified mountaineer, paragliding expert, and scuba diver, Deshmukh has long embodied the spirit of adventure beyond his administrative duties. His penchant for thrill and adrenaline has previously seen him scaling rugged mountains, navigating the depths of the sea, and soaring through the skies.

Additionally, his robust background in mountaineering expeditions has further bolstered his endurance and skill, positioning him strongly for the winter sports competition. Before his current posting, Deshmukh headed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Raipur, where he played a pivotal role in high-profile financial investigations. Despite his demanding professional commitments, his unwavering enthusiasm for adventure remained unscathed. An avid biker, Deshmukh has covered the length and breadth of the country on his motorcycle, exploring some of the remotest and toughest terrains.

Notably, Deshmukh was also part of the Tiger Trail Campaign recently organized by the Chhattisgarh Forest and Tourism Department, which aimed to promote eco-tourism and wildlife preservation. His involvement in such adventurous initiatives has often positioned him as an inspiring figure for adventure enthusiasts across the region. As Deshmukh readies himself to conquer the icy slopes of Gulmarg, his colleagues expressed immense pride and excitement for his upcoming endeavor. “Shailendra has always been a powerhouse of adventure and determination. Watching him represent Chhattisgarh in Khelo India Winter Games is not just a matter of honor but also an inspiration for all of us,” said one of his senior colleagues. “His passion for adventure is unmatched, and we are confident he will make our state proud on the national stage,” remarked another.
