NCP (SP) appoints Deshmukh, Shingane as Vidarbha heads

Aiming to strengthen the party base in Vidarbha, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) (NCP-SP) has appointed former ministers Anil Deshmukh and Dr Rajendra Shingane as In-charge for Vidarbha. Anil Deshmukh, former Home Minister, did not contest 2024 State Assembly polls, while Dr Rajendra Shingane, former Minister, lost from Sindkhedraja constituency in the polls. During the elections, Dr Shingane had joined NCP (SP) leaving Ajit Pawar group as the former had offered ticket to his niece Gayatri Shingane. Dr Rajendra Shingane was fielded by Sharad Pawar group and Gayatri Shingane contested the polls as an independent. Despite the loss, both leaders are considered as seasoned politicians and know the pulse of Vidarbha. Party feels that it could rise in this part of the State as its major leaders, except Praful Patel, did not join Ajit Pawar group. Deshmukh and Shingane are likely to distribute the responsibilities among themselves as East and West Vidarbha in-charge to make the job easier.
