Sakharam Gaikwad (not real name) was unhappy, as Government had allotted him only 500 sq. ft land as compensation against his land acquired for MIHAN project. Now he got 3,000 sq.ft land. Similarly, his one friend was unhappy as the earlier Government had given him only 5,000 sq.ft land. His family of four was feeling deprived. Now all the four brothers got 3,000 sq.ft land each. This was the saga of people living in Shivangaon, an important village in MIHAN. There were 185 families who were unhappy as they did not get justified compensation in 2012. So, despite its acquisition by the Government, they refused to vacate it. Now an important development took place.

Prakash Bhoyar, ex-Corporator took an initiative by writing a letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis requesting justice. Responding to his request, Government resolved the problems of these families. This has paved way for the further growth of Nagpur’s Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport and MIHAN too. “I had requested Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and District Collector Dr Vipin Itankar who is nowChairman of (MIHAN India Limited) to resolve the issues of the people of Shivangaon. Fadnavis agreed to it and accordingly, instructed officials to take measures.

Dr Itankar swung into action and took a decision to provide the compensation as demanded by the people. Now all the 185 families expressed their satisfaction and agreed to move to the area where their rehabilitation was done.” In 2012, these farmers were given less compensation. Collector Dr Itankar convened a meeting, and asked officials to identify the eligible beneficiaries. The process was done in a proper manner and finally now the villagers have agreed to move from Shivangaon. The remaining last few houses will be razed by the authority so that the development work won’t be affected. The action of demolishing the houses is underway. Bhoyar accompanied by Kishor Wankhede, Sanjay Mahalle, Prashant Kantode, Manohar Shahane, Shravan Kale met Dr Itankar and thanked him.
