CITY’S decorated yoga player Dhanashree Lekurwale-Vadnere has been selected in the Indian squad for the 2nd Asian Yogasana Sports Championship to be held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Delhi from April 25
to 27.
Top 16 athletes from each age group were selected in the Asian Championship selection trials held at the Sports University of Haryana, Sonipat recently. Dhanashree has been selected in the artistic singles yogasana category after performing exceptionally well in these trials.
Only one athlete from India has been selected in each yogasana category. Indian Yoga Association camp will run till April 23. Indian team will leave for Delhi on April 24. The athletes who perform well in the Asian meet will be selected for the Asian Games 2026 to be held in Japan.
This is the first time that yogasana will be played in the Asian Games.
Dhanashree is a regular yoga practitioner of Yamuna Keshav Multipurpose Institute Ratan Nagar and Yoga Life Centre Dev Nagar. Dr Prema Lekurwale, Dr Prajakta Ladukar, Dr Vishakha Joshi, Dr Dhananjay Welukar, Dr Madhavi Mardikar, Nilesh Ghavghave, Samata Vasudeva, Vadnere family and all office bearers of the Yoga Association congratulated Dhanashree and wished her best for the upcoming competitions.
