AFTER achieving record manganese ore production of 18 lakh tonnes in FY 2024-2025, MOIL has set an ambitious target to produce manganese ore of 35 lakh tonnes by 2030. Similarly, MOIL has set a production target of 22 lakh tonnes for FY 2025-2026. This was revealed by Ajit Kumar Saxena, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of MOIL while speaking to the media on the sidelines of MOIL’s CSR programme at Vanamati auditorium on Sunday. Saxena further said that MOIL is focussing on increasing its production as the steel production is set to surge from 150 million tonnes to 300 million tonnes by 2030. Apart from this, the company undertook exploratory core drilling of 1,07,530 meters during the year. The company also reported its highest-ever production of ferro manganese at 12,000 metric tonnes.

Saxena also expressed optimism about maintaining this growth momentum in the coming years by taking various initiatives. The company also plans to increase its market share from 20 per cent to 32 per cent by 2030. MOIL is exploring new business opportunities in various States by signing MoUs, forming joint ventures and sending request letter to State Governments like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha, in addition to expanding within Madhya Pradesh.

“The exploratory work is time consuming therefore the production takes years to begin,” he mentioned. In June, MOIL signed a joint venture with Gujarat State Mining Corporation at Pani village which is 80 km from Baroda. He is confident that after getting all the clearances the mine will start production in one and half years. The company is looking for managnese, nickle, lithium, iron ore, graphite and other minerals in South Africa, Indonesia and other countries. Since, starting mining activities at overseas locations takes long time, the focus is mostly in domestic locations. Furthermore, MOIL is enhancing its Environment Clearance (EV) capacity for exploration of mines. Currently, MOIL has 34 lakh tonnes of capacity which it plans to increase to 50 lakh tonnes by 2030, he added.
