TO ENCOURAGE talented sportspersons of city, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has started a scholarship scheme for athletes who have won medals at national and international competitions. NMC through its ‘Udaan Khel Protsahan Yojana’ has selected 74 players for the 57.89 lakh financial assistance. The NMC had invited online and offline applications from deserving players to get the financial assistance through the scheme. Accordingly, 74 players were selected by a panel for various incentive awards. According to the scheme, those sportspersons who have won medals for the country in the past three years got Rs 2 lakh as financial aid.
 
These include Shashruti Vinayak Nakade (Triathlon), Malvika Prabodh Bansod (Badminton), Alfiya Tarannum Pathan (Boxing), Snehal Sunil Joshi, Sanjana Sunil Joshi (Triathlon), Mrudul Vilas Dehankar, Divya Jitendra Deshmukh, Raunak Bharat Sadhwani (all Chess), Jennifer Varghese (Table Tennis), Ojas Praveen Deotale (Archery). Mrinali Prakash Pandey (Chess) and Siya Deodhar (Basketball) received Rs 1 lakh for representing Indian teams. Similarly, 15 athletes who have won medals at national level, received a financial aid of Rs 1,00,000 and nine players who participated in nationals got Rs 21,000. Another 38 sportspersons who have won medals at national championships got the financial aid of Rs 50,000 each.
