In a bid to strengthen Bhopal’s traffic management, District Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh chaired a District Road Safety Committee meeting on Friday at his office, issuing key directives to enhance road safety and streamline traffic flow. The meeting saw participation from Smart City CEO Anju Arun Kumar, DCP (Traffic) Sanjay Singh, ADM Prakash Nayak, SDM Aditya Jain and officials from relevant departments.
Collector Singh stressed the urgent need for robust traffic management and organised parking systems across the city.
He instructed officials to identify designated parking zones and prioritise road line markings to ensure orderly movement. To ease congestion, specific locations for e-rickshaw and auto stands were directed to be finalised, ensuring smoother traffic flow. Singh also tasked the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) with preparing an action plan to address the operation of old vehicles in the city, underscoring that road safety remains a critical priority requiring regular review.
The meeting deliberated on several measures, including restricting daytime movement of goods vehicles within city limits, installing new traffic signals, upgrading intersections and
roads, constructing left turns, dividers, and road markings like zebra crossings and stop lines. Additional focus was placed on erecting road signboards, building speed breakers and rumble strips, and addressing black spots, areas prone to accidents, through targeted improvements. Collector Singh directed officials to act swiftly on these points, emphasising timely execution.
To ensure accountability, he mandated monthly review meetings to monitor progress and adherence to deadlines. The comprehensive discussions and actionable directives reflect Bhopal’s commitment to fostering safer roads and a more efficient traffic system, with officials now geared to implement these measures promptly to enhance commuter safety and convenience across the city.
