Police bust vehicle thieves’ gang, seize Rs 7 lakh worth of e-rickshaw, 2-wheelers

In a significant crackdown on vehicle theft, Ayodhya Nagar Police, Zone-2, Bhopal, arrested three thieves, including two juveniles, and recovered one e-rickshaw and five two-wheelers valued at approximately Rs 7 lakh. The operation, which solved six vehicle theft cases, was executed under the leadership of Inspector Mahesh Lilhare, with guidance from Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone-2 Sanjay Kumar Agrawal, Additional DCP Mahavir Singh Mujalde, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Akshay Choudhary. The recovered vehicles included one motorcycle stolen from the Ashoka Garden area, highlighting the gang’s operations across multiple jurisdictions. The breakthrough followed a complaint by Mahendra Rajput, who reported his e-rickshaw (MP04 YA-4648) stolen on April 22, from outside his residence in Narela Shankari.

tensified efforts to curb rising vehicle thefts in the region, as directed by Police Commissioner Harinarayanachari Mishra and Additional Commissioner Awadhesh Goswami. DCP Agrawal promptly formed a dedicated team, leveraging CCTV footage, technical evidence, and informant networks to trace the suspects. The team apprehended the trio, Adarsh Rajput alias Golu (20) and two juveniles, in Rupnagar Industrial Area, recovering the stolen e-rickshaw. Interrogation revealed the gang’s involvement in five additional thefts in Ayodhya Nagar and one in Ashoka Garden.
 
The accused, led by Adarsh, a habitual offender with seven prior cases of theft and housebreaking, used stolen motorcycles with tampered number plates for reconnaissance. Adarsh, an auto driver and labourer, collaborated with the juveniles, both labourers with minimal education, to execute thefts to fund drugs and personal hobbies. The recovered vehicles include a Pulsar 150, Activa, Deluxe, Axis, and the e-rickshaw, all linked to cases under Section 303(2) BNS. The operation underscores Bhopal Police’s commitment to tackling vehicle and property-related crimes, ensuring swift arrests and maximum recovery. The team, including Sub-Inspectors Sudil Deshmukh, Vijay Singh, and other personnel, was lauded for their meticulous efforts. The police continue to investigate to uncover further links to the gang’s activities, reinforcing their resolve to maintain safety and security in the city.
