Tightening its regulatory framework and prioritising public safety, the Chhattisgarh Transport Department has made the installation of High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) mandatory for all vehicles registered before April 1, 2019. The move follows directives issued by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, as well as the provisions under the Central Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. According to official sources, the enforcement aims to enhance vehicle identification standards, curb vehicle-related crimes, and introduce uniformity across registration norms.

Vehicle owners are now required to procure HSRP exclusively through the Transport Department’s official website, cgtransport.gov.in, thereby avoiding any unauthorized agents or middlemen. Authorities have cautioned citizens following a spurt in fraudulent activities where miscreants, under the guise of HSRP installation agencies, have been duping vehicle owners. Several complaints were received wherein fake websites and Google ads offered ‘home delivery’ services for HSRP plates, thereby siphoning off payments through deceptive methods. “In light of rising complaints regarding fake portals and scams related to HSRP issuance, citizens must strictly rely on the official government platform for all applications,” a senior Transport Department officer emphasized. “There is no provision for third-party intermediaries in the registration or installation process.”

The department has launched a robust public awareness campaign across media and digital platforms, appealing to all vehicle owners to undertake direct online registration without entertaining any unofficial offers. In addition, violators failing to comply with the HSRP mandate could face penalties under motor vehicle laws. Officials reiterated that this move is not merely regulatory but a vital component of larger national efforts to ensure tamper-proof, traceable vehicle registrations. The step is expected to contribute significantly to road safety, crime prevention, and data standardization across enforcement agencies. The Transport Department has assured citizens of a seamless process through the portal and emphasized that genuine applicants will receive proper updates regarding their HSRP status without any external interference.
