Kawardha Police have seized gold jewelry worth Rs 4 crore from a car heading towards Raipur. The seizure was made during the routine vehicle inspection being done by the police on Kawardha-Raipur Road. Total three persons were present inside the car and after they failed to furnish documents regarding lawful ownership and bills of the jewelry, the police seized it and handed the matter over to Income Tax Department for further legal actions. Talking to ‘The Hitavada’, Additional Superintendent of Police (Kawardha) Pushpendra Baghel informed that on late Wednesday night, the police intercepted a car on Raipur road.
 
During inspection, the police found that gold ornaments weighing around 4 kilograms were kept in the dickey of the car while on asking, the persons present in the car failed to furnish relevant documents. On being asked he said that all three of them including the driver hailed from Raipur and the police after seizing the jewelry under relevant provisions handed over the matter to IT Department for further actions. Meanwhile sources claimed that the gold belonged to a reputed jeweler of Raipur and Rs 8.40 lakh were also seized from the car. Further investigations into the matter were in progress.
