While the heightened cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan has significantly disrupted air travel in northern and western regions of the country, Nagpur air passengers have no reasons to panic as flight services from the city’s airport have remained unaffected. At the moment all the domestic and international flight operations from the airport are running on a regular basis.
A senior officer attached to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport Nagpur told The Hitavada that no change in the flights have been made so far. “All the flights arriving and departing from the airport are operating normally,” he said on a condition of anonymity.
However, in the backdrop of the ongoing ‘Operation Sindoor’, security measures have been beefed up at the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport Nagpur. Passengers have been advised to reach the airport early and cooperate with the security personnel, he said.
Alok Vaidya,
Chairman of Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI), Vidarbha Chapter and Managing Director of Rupsha Aero Services Pvt Ltd also said that air passengers are travelling normally from the airport. “So far we have not received any ticket cancellation request from the air passengers,” he added.
It is important to note that on an average 60 to 62 flights are arriving and departing from the airport on a daily basis including two international flights to Doha and a weekly flight to Sharjah. The major domestic airlines operating from the airport are Air India, Indigo and Star Airlines.
“No major changes have taken place except some adjustments in the timings of the flights. However, if the situation intensifies and the duration of the conflict increases, the Government may issue new guidelines to be followed at Nagpur airport,” he explained.
It is worth mentioning here that amid the heightened cross-border tensions, the Indian Government has temporarily suspended operations at 27 airports across.
The authorities have also cancelled over 450 flights, issuing a nationwide security advisory. This has severly disrupted air travel in the northern and western parts of the country.
