BULL’S EYE: Amravati’s Madhura Dhamangaonkar bags 3 medals in Archery World Cup at Shanghai

A new world champion emerged in the form of Amravati’s Madhura Dhamangaonkar in the ongoing Shanghai 2025 Hyundai Archery World Cup stage 2 in Shanghai, China.
Madhura won a gold medal in
individual compound event by defeating American Carson Krah 139-138
and became the world champion
with her first gold in an international competition.
Madhura also won silver and bronze medals each in Women Compound event and mixed event to make her day memorable and has brought laurel for Amravati.
Despite a three-year break from international competition, she displayed remarkable composure to achieve a stunning victory, marking her return with three medals in total. Madhura Dhamangaonkar marked a significant milestone in her career.
Despite being unranked globally due to a three-year hiatus from international events, her resilience was evident when she overcame a four-point deficit in the third end. Her near-perfect performance in the fourth end, scoring just one less, highlighted her composure under pressure.
Adv Prashant Deshpande, State Association President, Pramod Chandurkar, Secretary and Madhura’s coach Pravin Sawant have expressed that this commendable performance of Madhura has created a wave of joy in the entire Maharashtra and has revived the hope of winning a medal for India in the upcoming
Olympics.
“This is a very happy and proud moment for the people of Amravati and Madhura’s hard work has paid off,” expressed her father Shailesh Dhamangaonkar.
On Saturday, in the compound category, India won five medals, including two gold, two bronze and one silver. Of these, Madhura alone bagged three medals.
In the compound team final match, played against Mexico on Saturday morning, the Indian team of Madhura Dhamangaonkar, Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Chikitha Taniparthi had to settle for the silver medal, losing 222-234.
Then, in the mixed doubles, the pair of Madhura Dhamangaonkar-Abhishek Verma defeated Malaysia 144-142 to win the bronze medal.
Then in the women’s individual competition, Madhura won her first international gold and the country’s second gold today by defeating American Carson 139-138.
Reacting on her historic performance, Pramod Chandurkar said that, with Compund event being included in 2028 Olympic, she has raised hopes to clinch a gold medal for Amravati.
He said that, Maharashtra is best across the globe in Compound event with players like Tejas Deotale, Aditi Swami and Madhura Dhamangaonkar.
They will definitely bring gold for India in Olympic. It should be mentioned that, Madhura Dhamangaonkar started practicising Archery at the age of 9. She is currently acquiring education from Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil University, Satara. After early training for Archery here at Hanuman Vyayam Prasarak Mandal (HVPM) (HVPM), she moved to Gurukul Academy run by Tushar Bhartiya, former Corporator in Satara where she learnt basics of Archery from Pavan Tambat and Ganesh Vishwakarma, both the Archery coach. Currently, she is undergoing training at Drishti Archery Academy under the guidance of Pravin Sawant.
Earlier, she has represented India in various events including World Cup Stage IV at Columbia in 2022, Asia Cup at Taiwan in 2018, World Youth Championship at Spain in 2019.
