Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Friday flagged off India’s first hydrogen fuel cell-powered mining truck, marking a major step toward clean industrial logistics. Developed and deployed by Adani Enterprises, the innovation places the state at the forefront of sustainable infrastructure transformation. Designed to carry 40 tonnes of cargo across a 200-kilometre range, the hydrogen-powered truck is part of a pioneering initiative by Adani Group to replace conventional diesel fleets. Deployed at the Gare Pelma III coal block, the truck will transport coal to the state’s thermal power plant under Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Ltd. “This moment marks Chhattisgarh’s deep-rooted commitment to sustainability. Launching India’s first hydrogen-powered truck from our soil reaffirms our leadership in green industrial innovation,” said CM. “We are not only powering the nation but also steering it toward a cleaner future.” Developed jointly by Adani Natural Resources (ANR) and Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL), the hydrogen fuel cell technology embodies next-generation mobility. With three hydrogen tanks and zero harmful emissions, these trucks release only water vapour –drastically reducing the carbon footprint of mining operations. Dr Vinay Prakash, CEO – Natural Resources and Director, Adani Enterprises, highlighted the group’s broader sustainability vision: “We are building model mines powered by clean energy, digital systems, and autonomous technologies. This truck is a step toward responsible mining that matches safety with sustainability.” The initiative helps reduce India’s dependence on crude oil imports while introducing Asia’s first Dozer Push Semi-Autonomous Technology in coal extraction, he added.
