EOW: Assets worth crores unearthed from Asst Engineer’s properties in Narsinghpur
Staff Reporter :
In a major crackdown, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) conducted simultaneous raids on four locations linked to Umashankar Parashar, an Assistant Engineer (AE) of the electricity department, on Saturday morning. The operation revealed undisclosed assets worth crores, including factories, three houses, and benami (proxy) property documents.
A 15-member EOW team from Jabalpur targeted Parashar’s residences and businesses in Narsinghpur, Biner village near Amgaon, and Niwari village. Preliminary investigations confirmed that Parashar possesses assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Properties Registered in Wife’s Name Raise Suspicions: According to EOW DSP AB Singh, Parashar owns a house in Narsinghpur’s Vipatpura area, two additional houses in Rosra, a Common Bio-Chemical Factory in Niwari village, and a Medical Waste Treatment Plant in Biner village. Notably, both factories are registered in his wife’s name, fueling suspicions of benami transactions.
Seized Documents Under Scrutiny: During the raids, EOW seized property documents, bank transaction records, and other financial evidence.
The team has initiated a valuation of the assets, with early estimates suggesting their market value runs into crores of rupees. The legitimacy of the factories and properties’ documentation is also under investigation.
Suspicious Activities Persist Post-Transfer: Parashar, currently posted as AE in Katni’s City Divisional Office, previously served in Narsinghpur’s Vigilance Department. Sources indicate that he began amassing undisclosed assets during his tenure
in vigilance. Despite his transfer to Katni a year ago, allegations of financial irregularities continued to surface. Investigations in progress: EOW officials stated that the operation is ongoing, with a detailed analysis of the seized documents underway. A comprehensive report, including a full valuation of the assets, will guide further legal action. The case has sent shockwaves through the region, spotlighting corruption within the electricity department.
