In the wake of rising tensions along the Indo-Pak border following retaliatory strikes on terror hubs in Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack, police in Bhilai launched intensive early morning search operations targeting illegal immigrants under the ongoing ‘Musafiri Policing’ initiative. The police teams led by CSPs carried out simultaneous raids beginning at 5 AM on Saturday across the jurisdictions of Chaoni, Jamul, and Khursipar police stations. The effort focused on identifying and verifying the presence of undocumented individuals, particularly those suspected of entering from Pakistan and Bangladesh. Over 589 individuals were screened, with fingerprints collected from 154 for verification and database creation. Among them, 200 persons had migrated from states such as West Bengal, Kishanganj in Bihar, and Jharkhand.

The Khursipar police team led by CSP Harish Patil, covered areas like Khursipar Labour Camp (KLC) and Zone-3. Meanwhile, CSP Satyaprakash Tiwari oversaw operations in Shardapara and Chaoni. The police officers verified identification documents including Aadhaar and ration cards and cross-checked the stated backgrounds of residents. Fingerprint scanning was conducted for those with dubious credentials. SSP) Vijay Agrawal told ‘The Hitavada’ that the crackdown is part of a broader initiative to monitor transient populations and detect illegal settlement. He emphasized the need for rigorous tenant verification, urging landlords to collect and submit the designated tenant information forms available at local police stations or posts. Residents were strongly advised to comply with documentation protocols to prevent any legal repercussions. All Gazetted Officers (GOs) were directed for ensuring close check especially with regard to the movements of outsiders and illegal immigrants at police stations’ level across the district.
