Durg/Raipur :
In a swift administrative response to glaring civic failures, Chhattisgarh Government has suspended Netram Chandrakar, Chief Municipal Officer (CMO) of Kumhari, following a surprise inspection by Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration Minister Arun Sao on May 9.
The visit, conducted without prior notice, exposed severe lapses in basic municipal functioning – ranging from incomplete documentation and missing registers to staff absenteeism and unsatisfactory handling of central schemes. Particularly under scrutiny were the slow progress of Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY), Amrut Mission works, and delayed grievance redressal under the state’s ongoing ‘Sushasan Tihar’.
According to the order issued by the
Urban Administration and Development Department, Chandrakar’s actions violated Rule 3 of the Chhattisgarh Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1965. Acting on the subsequent report submitted by the Joint Director, Durg, the department invoked Rule 9 of the Chhattisgarh Civil Services (Control and Appeal) Rules, 1966 to suspend Chandrakar with immediate effect. Chandrakar has been attached to the regional office in Durg for the duration of his suspension, during which he will receive subsistence allowance as per service norms – a disciplinary move underscoring the state’s intent to enforce accountability and ensure timely execution of public welfare schemes.
